History: -

The world's earliest sand deposit created by a tsunami has been accurately dated to September 1524 and is located in the coastal village of Kelshi in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district. This is the first time that such a deposit of tsunami sand was accurately dated

Kelashi is a village in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra state in Western India.The 2011 Census of India recorded a total of 3,145 residents in the village.Kelashi's geographical area is 265 hectares (650 acres).Kelashi is a small seaside village, famous for its Mahalaxmi Temple (1100 years old temple), sand hillocks and Yakub baba's dargah (7th Guru of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaja).

 

Best Time to visit:-

The months of November to February are the best time to visit, as the cool climate of the Winter makes for a pleasant setting while relaxing in the Konkan region. This is also the best time for those interested in engaging in birdwatching..
